Overnight Yard Hostler

As a critical member of our operations team, the Overnight Yard Hostler plays a key role in ensuring the smooth and safe movement of trailers within the yard. Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, you will operate a Terminal Tractor and uphold yard management standards to contribute to a well-organized and efficient workplace.

Key Responsibilities

Safety

• Effectively and safely utilize all equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections and maintain the energy source for the Terminal Tractor and other equipment.
• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to company standards and regulatory guidelines.
• Safely operate the Terminal Tractor to maneuver trailers in and out of dock doors and parking spaces.

Operational Process

• Inspect trailers to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is functioning correctly.
• Perform trailer inventory checks and yard audits to maintain operational efficiency.
• Keep detailed records, logs, and forms including required pre-trip inspection reports.
• Execute additional tasks as assigned, such as operating Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT) including forklifts and electric pallet jacks.
• Prioritize customer satisfaction (both internal and external) while achieving operational results.
• Utilize electronic equipment for accurate inventory tracking within the facility.
• Collaborate with team members to prevent yard bottlenecks and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
• Foster strong relationships with colleagues and business partners to enhance teamwork.

Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge, & Education:

• At least one year of Yard Hostler experience is preferred.
• Previous exposure to the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) or Food & Beverage industries is advantageous.
• Proven decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
• Basic understanding of computer systems and warehouse management systems.
• Fluency in English is required; additional language skills are a plus.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and climb ladders to efficiently perform job duties.
• Occasional lifting, moving, and placing of up to 75 pounds.
• This position involves exposure to mechanical parts, varying temperatures, and weather conditions.
• Must be eligible for certification to operate the Terminal Tractor and PIT equipment.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment in accordance with company policies.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record is required.

Shift Rotation: Week 1: Monday-Thursday 5 PM - 5 AM; Week 2: Monday-Wednesday 5 PM - 5 AM.

Compensation: Base pay is $21.00 per hour, with a $1 shift differential and a target quarterly bonus of 5%. Note that compensation rates may change in the future.
