Essential Functions of the Lead Teacher

  • Builds personal and meaningful relationships with childcare families while exemplifying the Y’s commitment to the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility.
  • Responds to all inquiries in a timely manner.  
  • As a full-time employee you must be dependable, and you will be expected to build consistency and stability in the classroom for the children in your care. 
  • Implement curriculum within the established guidelines.
  • Design and implement daily lesson/activity plans.
  • Supervise children, classroom and all activities.
  • Make ongoing, systemic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Conduct parent conferences while maintaining positive relationships and effective communication.
  • Maintain program site and equipment.
  • Maintain required program records.
  • Attend and participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings and staff training (18 hours per year)

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

Meets 80% to 100% of the following qualifications: 

  1. Ability to perform duties with professionalism, enthusiasm, kindness, empathy, care, honesty, and respect. 
  2. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. 
  3. Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law; 18 ECE Credits   
  4. At least 21 years of age   
  5. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.   
  6. Health form completed within the 30 days of hire date; renewed every 3 years.   
  7. At least 1 year of experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.  
  8. Ability to plan, organize and implement age- appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities. 

PREFERED LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS:  

  1. An associate degree or higher in ECE or equivalent 
  2. 3 or more years of experience working in a licensed childcare facility.
